Kohima, Aug. 23 (EMN): Vimelie scored two goals as Khriekesa FC team beat the third place New Market 2-1 at the ongoing Kohima Football League season played at the Kohima local ground on Thursday.
Despite the defeat, New Market FC remained in 3rd place with 19 points in 12 matches, while Khriekesa FC is placed at 5th place with 16 points after Twenty XI beat Vanguard FC in the second match to take the 4th position.
Lacklustre New Market team failed to light up the game as they missed a penalty and hit the cross bar in the game to end their KFL-2 with a defeat.
Khriekesa opened the scoring through Vimelie Chasie in 28th minute. New Market also got their share to equalise after a clumsy challenge by the keeper Mhasiletuo on Rhitsho Mero inside the area was awarded a penalty but Salu Kulim missed the spotkick in the 32nd minute.
Talisman for New Market’s Gideon Leo tap-in a deflection after Rhitsho shot was initially blocked by the keeper Mhasiletuo in the 53rd minute to equalise the scoreline.
New Market failed to seize the opportunity as Vimelie scored from a goalkeeper error in the 71st minute. The goalkeeper Lhiwete Koza failed to clear the ball of Velukho Rhakho free-kick as Vimelie was in the right position to thump home the winning goal.
New Market also hit the crossbar in the 90th minute. Khriekesa won the match 2-1 to end their KFL-2 season with a win.
Twenty XI Viswema win to book fourth place
Debutant team Twenty XI FC Viswema defeated the 6th place Vanguard FC Tseminyu 2-1 to book their fourth place of the Kohima Football League table.
Twenty XI still have a match against league leaders Sechu Zubza on Saturday, a defeat would still keep them in fourth place. Should they win against league leaders, they can move above New Market in the league standing. Sechu Zubza needed only a draw to win the league.
Twenty XI FC with the win will remained in 4th position with 19 points and debutant team Vanguard end their season in 6th place with 11 points.
In the match, Metol Neikha scored in the 22nd minute for Twenty XI to take the lead, while Viho Kin added the second goal in the 69th minute.
Vanguard fought back to get a goal through their captain Yhunshalo Kemp through a penalty in 73rd minute but Twenty XI defended the score till the end of the match to win the match and book their fourth place in the league.
It may be mentioned that Twenty XI FC Viswema are the only playing team participating in the league with full 18 local players without any loan player.
