Kohima, Jan. 19 (EMN): Debutant Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü of Dapfhütsumia Khel was crowned as the new wrestling champ of Kohima village following his victory against
reigning champion Dzieselatuo Keretsü, also of D. khel in the final here at the Kohima local ground on Jan. 19. 19 year-old Kezhaseluo-o, son of late Thepfusanyü Pienyü, surprised
the packed Khuochiezie crowd as he managed to pull down veteran wrestler Dzieselatuo in straight sets in the final match. The wrestling tournament also marked the culmination of the 63rd Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) meet which began on Jan. 13.
En-route to claiming the coveted title, the new champ earlier defeated Tsutuonuomia Khel wrestler Kekhriengulie Whuorie in the semis, while he overcame another T. Khle wrestler and former KVSA champ Khrievotuo Sekhose in the quarters. Another title contender and promising wrestler Menuosetuo Yiese (D.Khel), who lost to Dzieselatuo in the semis, settled for the third position, followed by Kekhriengulie Whuorie (T. Khel) in the fourth
place. The champion was given a cash award of INR 30,000 along with title belt, while the other three winners were given a cash incentive of INR 20,000, 10,000 and 5,000. Along with the top four wrestlers, the others who have qualified to represent KVSA at the forthcoming Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) wrestling meet are – Khrievotuo Sekhose, Khrietsonyü Whuorie, Seyiekhrietuo Yiese, Kevisalie Kire, Keneikhrielie Yhome, Kevichü Rutsa, Vizakietuo Suohu, Metseizotuo Sote, Kekrukhrielie Dzüvichü, Keluonguzo Keretsü, Vitouzo Belho and Khriebazo Solo.
The NASA wrestling meet is scheduled from Feb. 2 to 3 at the Kohima local ground.
