KOHIMA — The Kezes Krotho Kohima (KKK) celebrated its silver jubilee and inaugurated 'Kezes Krotho Shadze' on Saturday at Lerü Medi, Kohima, with Helievio Solo, chairman of Kohima Village Council (KVC), as the special guest.
It may be mentioned that Shadze is a cultural heritage used since the time of forefathers.
Speaking during the programme, the KVC chairman narrated that Shadzes are not built everywhere, but the location is chosen strategically since it will serve as a location from where elders make announcements to the members of the community.
Solo also shared that villages are built with a cornerstone placed in the centre of the village, and said the forefathers believed that without the cornerstone, the village is unable to grow.
He lamented that Nagas struggle to preserve things, noting that individuals take great care of personal belongings, but often neglect public assets. He warned that if this mindset continues, their way of life and assets will be lost.

He reminded the gathering that if someone builds something for the people then they have to take care of it as their own.
He also noted that Nagas are losing numerous traditional assets, and also have become narrow minded and selfish, adding, “If we continue in this path we will face deterioration.”

He recalled that their forefathers lived hand in hand, helping, supporting each other even in times when they worked from hand to mouth.
He went on to state that Nagas are presently at a crossroad and “the greatest threat to our community today is illegal immigrants with records indicating that illegal immigrants will be twice the population in about 25 years.”
“Therefore we need to be cautious in our dealings. We should think for the future and not think only about making profits now.”
President of KVYO, Medozhazo Rutsa hoped that the Shadze would be used wisely by the people. He also expressed optimism that the Kezes Krotho Kohima will be able to bring positive changes in the community and society as well.
During the programme, Vimhalie Pienyü, convenor of the finance committee, delivered a greeting speech, and Khrielakuolie Suohu, convenor of the organising committee, reported on the Shadze construction.
Pfuchazünuoko performed a Tati (folk song), and. Medozhazo Rutsa of Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) released the souvenir.
