WOKHA — The road stretch from the mother church (Wokha Town Baptist Church) to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) in Wokha town is set for repair after years of neglect and inconvenience to commuters.
According to residents, the road is a key link within the town, connecting several colonies, institutions and administrative offices, and is used by students, churchgoers, office workers and daily commuters.
They said the deteriorating condition of the road had remained a concern, particularly during heavy usage and public gatherings.
Likya colony chairman Ajamo Kikon described the stretch as one of the most important junctions in the district, stating that it provides access to the mother church and links with the national highway from both directions.

He said one section leads uphill towards the Superintendent of Police office and the upcoming Deputy Commissioner’s office, while another connects New colony, DBHSS, Wokha Village and surrounding colonies.
Expressing relief over the proposed repair, Kikon said residents had struggled for years due to the poor condition of the road. He urged citizens not to dump waste into roadside drains, stating that clogged drainage often leads to water overflow and road damage.
Former Likya colony chairman Jenithung Erui informed that the repair work is being carried out through the personal effort of MLA Humtsoe and not under any government-funded project.
Appreciating the initiative, he said the intervention would bring relief, especially for elderly persons, students and worshippers during Sundays and church events.
Ward-5 town councillor Nzanthung Lotha stated that the repair will cover the stretch from the mother church towards DBHSS.
He requested public cooperation during the construction period, stating that preparatory work has begun and full-scale repair activities are expected to commence from Monday, with completion anticipated within a week.
