DIMAPUR — In the two-day Nagaland International Conference on Tourism, Transport and Logistics, organised by the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), held on February 7 and 8 at Zone Niathu by the Park, Chümoukedima, outstanding contributions in the fields of tourism and sustainability were recognised through the awards of excellence.
According to an update from BAN, the awards presented at the conference included Best Tour Operator to Naga Bivouac (founder: Neikedolie), Best Eco-Friendly Resort to The Majestic Kapamodzu (founder: Rekha Rose Dukru), Best Community Conservation Practices to Lemsachenlok Society (chairman: Nuklu Phom), and a Special Citation to Hebamlo (initiated by Green Hub & Royal Enfield).
The key outcomes from the conference include the launch of a responsible tourism awareness campaign aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness through awareness programmes at various levels.
A standardised code of conduct will be established, aligning with the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism (2022) issued by the Ministry of Tourism. Structured training programmes and incentive-based initiatives will be introduced in collaboration with government agencies and other relevant organisations to enhance service quality and sustainability.
A partnership with Zone by the Park will focus on hospitality training and property development with local partners. An empowered eco-tourism board will be formed, in line with ministry guidelines, to oversee sustainable tourism development, policy implementation, and stakeholder coordination.
Strategic collaboration with Green Hub will promote community-driven responsible tourism initiatives and skill development programmes. BAN will participate in the upcoming responsible tourism conclave and invite participation from interested entrepreneurs and individuals as well as collaborate with the Responsible Tourism Society of India.
In addition, opportunities for business and entrepreneurship exchange programmes with Japan will be explored to facilitate innovation, investment, and knowledge-sharing in partnership with private enterprises. BAN will also facilitate B2B networking between the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and BAN, focusing on collaboration in tour guide training, cultural, and business exchange programmes.
Also, BAN, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will organise an event dedicated to adventure tourism, tapping into Nagaland’s potential in this sector.
