Kohima, Jan 22 (EMN): Kevibou Kense, on Saturday, emerged as the champion of the Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) Group-D wrestling meet held at Nachama village under Kohima district.
Kense from Touphema village won a cash prize of INR 30,000, while Thepfusa-o Kire from Gariphema village clinched the runner-up position and received prize money of INR 20,000.
Neisezolie Metha of Nachama village placed third, Rukuobeizo Zumu of Seiyhama village finished fourth place and received INR 15,000 and INR 10,000 respectively.
In the junior category, Vivor Rio from Chiechama village won the first position and received a cash award of INR 10,000.
Neikhrietuo Kelelie of Gariphema village won the second position, Seyievizo Metha from Chiechama village and Dziesetuolie Rupreo of Nachama village secured the third and fourth positions respectively. They received prize money of INR 7,000, INR 5,000 and INR 3,000 respectively.
Prize money worth INR 20,000 and INR 5000, was also presented to the wrestlers, to be shared by the senior and junior category quarterfinalists respectively.
Earlier, Kevisa Kense, director of Fishery and Aquatic Resources, government of Nagaland, was the special guest of the opening ceremony. Addressing the programme, he stated that education and sports must go hand in hand, while pointing out the need for an all round development.
He opined that in life, academic excellence is only 25% and stressed on the need to take up sports professionally.
The director also stated that sportspersons are the most recognised and richest people in the world today and urged the people to give attention to the profession of sports to make a career. In this regard, he also lamented the huge number of educated persons, who after receiving their degrees are still depending on their parents.
Meanwhile, the whole prize money was sponsored by Kuovisieu Rio and Keduo Zumu.
Kevilezo Kense, NASA-D president, delivered the greeting, while a special number was presented by Pelevinuo Sokha. Atu Zumvü, deputy superintendent of police (SB), Dimapur was the guest of honour.
