The NPF Central Working Committee in a meeting in Kohima today took a consensus decision to support KG Kenye for the lone Rajya Sabha seat and also conveyed the same to the BJP members for endorsement.
The working committee began the meeting at 11 a.m. with Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, President NPF pronouncing the invocation prayer. The president highlighted to the members the composition, duties and responsibility of the WC, before the agenda was placed for discussion.
According to a communiqués issued by President Dr. Shürhozelie liezietsu and Recording Secretary Y.Vikheho Swu, the agenda/subject for discussion was to finalize party candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat which was vacated by the demise of late Khekiho MP.
The party president introduced the 11 candidates by way of reading out their names which was arranged in alphabetical order and distributed to all the members in file.The party president invited all the members to share their mind with sincerity and also to maintain the sanctity of the WC by way of keeping secrecy.
The chief minister TR Zeliang further highlighted to the members to keep account of certain aspects in selecting the lone member that the candidate should be one who will always be loyal to the party; the selection should not be on tribal line but on capability; the candidate should be one who can best perform keeping in mind the crucial stage of Indo-Naga issue.
This was followed by the 12 WC members and 4 special invitees to WC, expressing individual opinion in selecting the lone candidate. The result ended with overwhelming support for KG Kenye for the Rajya Sabha candidate. (13 vote in favour of KG. Kenye).
Following this, the president announced the consensus decision taken by the party.
The DAN Co-ordination meeting was called wherein the chairman DAN Co-ordination Committee conveyed the decision of the Working Committee to the BJP members for endorsement. The BJP members in principal welcomed the decision of the Working Committee.
