DIMAPUR — Minister of Power and Parliamentary
Affairs, KG Kenye, attended the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region
(DoNER) summit on the 7th North East States' Power and Energy Mix in the Region
on the third day of the Asthalaxmi Mahotsav in New Delhi on December 8.
Addressing the gathering at the summit, Kenye presented
Nagaland's power scenario and outlined its immediate requirements, according to
an update.
On the hydro potential available in Nagaland, the minister
stated that the total hydro potential (in operation and identified) in the
state is currently about 633 MW. Of this, only around 104 MW has been tapped,
leaving an untapped potential of 529 MW.
Regarding the transmission infrastructure shortfall and its
requirements, Kenye shared that to meet the projected demand of 360 MW by 2032,
a total transmission capacity of 1150.5 MVA is required. Of this, the existing
capacity is 400.5 MVA, while 240 MVA is ongoing under NERPSIP, leaving a
shortfall of 510 MVA.
The minister stated that the remaining 510 MVA has been
proposed under the Intra-state Transmission Plan 2030/32 for Nagaland, which
has been finalised with the CEA.
Kenye added that the plan includes the construction of nine
132/33 kV substations and 476 km of transmission lines, with a total estimated
cost of INR 1150.68 crore, for which funding is required.
