Imphal, April 20
Kanglei Economic Development Organisation has observed its 8th Foundation Day at Ima Keithel today. Deputy CM Gaikhangam appealed all to imbibe work culture for a better Manipur. It may be mentioned that KEDO was formed on April 20, 2007 by a group of hardworking indigenous people with an objective to reduce the problem of unemployment for the educated youths of the state, and to imbibe work culture and the habit of getting work irrespective of the nature of work. The observation today was attended by Deputy CM Gaikhangam, MLA and PDA Chairman T Mangibabu, IMC Chairperson A Nimai Sharma, Poknapham Editor A Robindro Sharma and Sangai Express Editor Khogendra Khomdra. The women vendors of Ima Keithel showed their love and encouragement to KEDO by attending the function in full.
Addressing the gathering, Gaikhangam mentioned about the inherent pride of Manipuri people in not being depended and bonded to others, and their choice in not doing lowly jobs. He appreciated this mindset, but questioned whether how far this will be feasible in today’s world where work culture, competition and discipline are essential for development in any society. He emphasised the need for unity and strong sense of work culture, and to follow the path of ‘work is religion’ from our forefathers.
Deputy CM lauded the ‘trendsetting’ efforts of KEDO volunteers in bringing this new wave of employment to the educated youths, and said that this kind of chance, even though arrived a bit late in the state, is very good. He added that such philosophy had been adopted by the developed European and American countries long time back. He saluted those employees who earned their livelihood by dint of sweat and termed them as the noblest and most respectable section of people.
He also expressed his happiness in learning that KEDO has made so much achievement is its short journey and also in seeing the love that the women vendors have to the KEDO members as their own children.
PDA Chairman Mangibabu also appreciated the hardworking spirit of the KEDO members and appealed all to respect such employees who have no shame in doing their work. He added that such revolution in the labour works sector of Manipur will help in facing the influx and domination of petty labour jobs in main markets by the outsiders. He also announced that PWD will soon start repairing the present Ima Keithel to maintain it well and to make it more convenient to the women vendors.
IMC Chairperson also thanked for lending help and associating with any major activities of the council.
As a part of the function, women vendors of the three Ima Keithels felicitated KEDO president Soibam Maniton, who was recently honoured with an award at the International Conference on Dynamics of Banana held at Jagao, Maharashtra.
The women vendors also honoured KEDO members M Tiken, Y Ranbir and K Tolenkhomba for their outstanding performances.
