Kohima, June 6 (EMN): The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) has said that it will join the 11-day nationwide agitation called by the All India Congress Committee to protest the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.
Kevi Vizo, president of KDCC, informed Eastern Mirror on Tuesday that they will protest fuel price hike from July 7 to the 17th in the form of banners, stickers and signature campaigns at fuel outlets in and around the state capital.
The decision to protest was taken during an emergency meeting attended by KDCC president and vice presidents, heads of both Assembly Constituency Congress Committees (ACCCs) and frontal organisations at Congress Bhavan in Kohima, on Tuesday.
It was informed that the KDCC had decided to "extend their support and co-operation” in the 11-day protest following the directives from All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).
Vizo informed that the agitation will be organised by following all the existing SOP laid down to contain the spread of the Covid-19.
He stated that the unprecedented hike in petrol and diesel prices has resulted in increase of prices of essential commodities.
Stating that the steep increase in prices of fuel has affected everyone, the KDCC appealed to the public to extend their support. It added that the protest is not limited to the Congress party.
Petrol price crosses INR 100
According to data available on Indian Oil Corporation, the price of diesel is INR 89.36 per litre and INR 99.86 per litre in New Delhi on Tuesday. In Mumbai, petrol currently costs INR 105.92 per litre while diesel costs INR 96.91 per litre.
In Kohima, diesel is priced at INR 92.24 per litre, while petrol costs INR 99.40 per litre on Tuesday.
2023 state assembly election
Vizo also announced that the Congress would field its candidates in all the seven assembly constituencies under Kohima district in the 2023 Nagaland legislative Assembly election.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Vizo was said to have asked all the ACCCs and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) under Kohima district to gear up for the next state assembly elections and start preparing.
