Dimapur, April 24 (EMN): The Kohima Aliba SensoTelongjem (KAST) celebrated its golden jubilee on April 23 at NPWD Rest House, Upper PWD Kohima, on the theme “Sobaliba Arongtsüngshi” (Cultural Renaissance).
Speaking on the theme, Talitsüngba Ao stated that mother tongue is a part of culture, which was passed by the United Nations by giving the right to speak one's own mother tongue in one's country or place except for some legal, medical, scientific terms etc., stated a DIPR report.
Stressing on the changes that are taking place, he stated that a lot of the cultural practices and beliefs of the past have been changed since the coming of Christianity and also due to positive laws being passed by the government.
“Many of us are confused with our customary laws because we are not aware of the special laws that protect our customary law but follow the different laws passed by the government for others which clash with our customary law,” Talitsüngba said.
With the vanishing of culture, he stressed that the laws of state implemented should be culture-based and tribal rights protected from other laws. As the state has many tribes, he added that customary laws and practices should be protected and acknowledged by the government.
Retired director of Agriculture, I Panger Imchen, stated that Aliba is a rich and prosperous village, which has produced many outstanding personalities in the field of education, different professions, NBSE toppers etc. He described the people of the village as hardworking and having responsibilities. He also congratulated the KAST for attaining its 50 years.
Words of appreciation were also delivered by Aliba village council chairman, Imlinungba Jamir; president of Chungtia Union Kohima, I Moa Longchar; and Kinunger Union Kohima, Imkongsanen. Greetings were also shared by representatives of Aliba Union Mokokchung Town, Rongsensangba, and Dimapur Aliba Senso Telongjem, PurobaKitchu.
