Diphu, Feb. 20 (EMN): The five-day 44th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), dubbed as the oldest ethnic festival of the northeast concluded at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, Diphu, on February 19.
The five-day festival witnessed various competitions on traditional dances, songs, music, sports and craft. The festival was organised by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS).
Mention may be made here that the centre of attraction for the festival was a decorative shape traditional earring ‘Nothengpi’ built with bamboo at the departmental exhibition site. Cultural troupe from Thailand also performed folk dances called ‘ Nang hai dance ‘ at Singmirjeng open stage which mesmerised the audience. It was for the first time that a foreign troupe had performed folk dance during the festival.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang attended as the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
Addressing in the mammoth gathering at Singmirjeng open stage, Ronghang has assured to construct water tank with attach bathrooms in each of the KCS zonal camp with an estimated amount of INR 20 lakh for 26 KCS constituencies. He has also announced to construct 30 departmental exhibition halls with an estimated amount of INR 10 lakh per hall.
The temporary Nothengpi made of bamboos, which was introduced this year and the centre of attraction, would be replaced with a permanent structure costing an amount of INR 1crore, added Ronghang.
Besides, he has assured to construct four lane road with dividers and street lights leading to the festival venue Taralangso. He added that a permanent ethnic village of various tribes would be constructed with an estimated amount of INR 15 lacs per ethnic village.
During the festival various ethnic groups were also invited and presented their traditional dances which added more colourful to the festival.
The best team award was won by Tekelangjun KCS zone, while Den Arong and Bokolia KCS zones won the second and third best team respectively.
