Diphu, Aug. 10 (EMN): The Karbi Students’ Union (KSU) expressed dismay over Assam Higher Secondary Education Council’s (AHSEC) decision to withdraw Alternative English as a Modern Indian Language (MIL) from the next academic session 2021-2022.
In this regard, KSU in a press statement said, "The abrupt withdrawal of Alternative English as MIL from AHSEC has irked and aggrieved the student community hailing from Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous districts. We have taken the matter seriously and raised the issue with the CEM of Karbi Aanglong Autonomous Council, and Chairman of AHSEC to redress the grievances following the withdrawal of Alternative English as MIL".
"The CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on Monday informed our Advisor, Richard Ingti stating that the state Education minister has been informed to reinstate Alternative English in the MIL group. However, the matter remains unsolved and no changes have been made in the AHSEC portal. So, anticipating the gravity of the situation, the advisor of KSU Richard Ingti on Tuesday conversed with the chairman of AHSEC, following which the Karbi Students Union sent an email to the Education council highlighting the issue and sought remediation", the statement said.
"We also demand the inclusion of Karbi Language in MIL from the academic session of 2023-2024 onwards and until its implementation Alternative English shall continue as MIL in respect to special consideration for the students hailing from the three Autonomous hill districts", it added.
