- DIPHU — The Karbi
Students' Association (KSA), Hamren Regional Committee, submitted a memorandum
to Sarangapani Sharma, district commissioner of West Karbi Anglong, on Sunday
regarding concerns about the alleged entry and campaigning by Banikas Laban, a
member of the Congress from Barato, Meghalaya, within the jurisdiction of West
Karbi Anglong for the ongoing Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council
election.
- The KSA stated that Laban and other political parties have
been entering and campaigning in West Karbi Anglong. Furthermore, the KSA
claimed to have credible information that Laban holds dual voter IDs, one from
Assam (West Karbi Anglong) and another from Meghalaya, which constitutes a
serious violation of electoral laws.
- The KSA urged the authorities to prevent Laban and other
political entities from campaigning in West Karbi Anglong. They also called for
an investigation into the alleged dual voter ID issue and appropriate legal
action. Additionally, the KSA requested the deployment of police personnel to
maintain peace and prevent unauthorised political activities in the area.
- Prosanto Engti, president of the KSA-Hamren Regional
Committee, condemned the entry of various political parties from Meghalaya into
West Karbi Anglong. He emphasised that such activities are unacceptable and
constitute a serious violation of the region's integrity and jurisdiction.
- Engti said that various political parties from Meghalaya
have been campaigning for their MDC election, having crossed 40 km from the interstate
border, and stated that such acts are intolerable.
- In this regard, the KSA Hamren Regional Committee submitted
a formal complaint letter to the DC, urging immediate and necessary action to
prevent any further interference.
