DIPHU — Various factions of Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) on Monday celebrated the 66th foundation day of KSA by organising separate celebration programmes at different venues.
The KSA Inglongpho group celebrated the day by observing it as ‘Karbi Students’ Day’ at KSA central committee (CEC) office, Rongthe-ang.
The celebration commenced with morning flag hoisting by KSA President Budho Teramg, followed by a tribute to former KSA members at the memorial column, led by General Secretary Barnabas Killing.
A bike rally was organised, demanding the immediate implementation of an Autonomous State under Article 244(A) and promoting anti-drug awareness. KSA President Terang flagged off the rally, which drew a large participation from KSA members.
Speaking to media persons, the KSA general secretary said that the organisation, established in 1959, has navigated many challenges and is now celebrating its 66th foundation day, marked as ‘Students' Day.’

He added that the celebrations are being organised across four regional committees — Diphu, Hamren, Bokajan, and Howraghat.
“This year we have made the celebration more special. As part of the commemoration of the event, the KSA has organised a free blood donation camp at Diphu Medical College & Hospital on July 14. This morning bike rally was taken out giving stress on the Autonomous State issue and anti-drugs awareness. From this rally, the KSA is sending out a strong message to the harmful effect of drugs on health and to avoid the use of drugs in order to build up a drug free society,” Killing said.
He also informed that during the open session, pens were distributed to all present. “Pens were distributed to give a message that education is important for the progress of individuals and society. Without education life is meaningless and becomes stagnant,” he said.
In the open session held later in the afternoon, the KSA honoured top achievers, including Barnel Bey, who cleared APSC exams to join as enforcement inspector; Sheela Terangpi, who cracked UPSC to become assistant director; and NEET qualifiers.
Prabhat Chandra Taro, EM of KAAC, attended the event as chief guest and urged KSA members to prioritise students' interests and promote education. He regretted CEM Tuliram Ronghang's absence due to official business in New Delhi and appealed for support for the CEM’s development initiatives.
