DIPHU — The Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) —one of the leading Karbi women organisations fighting for the rights and dignity of women in the district—will be celebrating its 39th foundation day on August 1, at its central committee office in Diphu.
This was informed by KNCA general secretary Kajek Tokbipi during a press briefing held at KNCA office on Tuesday. Members from different branches and regional committees of KNCA will be participating in the celebration, where women involved in the movement will be invited, Tokbipi informed.
Expert persons will also be invited to speak on the role of women in the participation of autonomous state movement and the importance of the dignity and rights of women. Issues related to women like physical harassment, deprivation and young girls and women getting into immoral acts will be discussed, she further informed.

She said women have to take the forefront in making the society right and to stand on their own feet to develop oneself. The KNCA will continue to promote the Karbi traditional customs by producing ‘pini, pehkok’ and wearing them.
Meanwhile, KNCA president Maikon Rongpharpi has refuted allegations that the July 11 meeting between the Forum for Hills Autonomous State Movement (FHASM) delegation and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma undermined the 2021 Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) between the state and central government and six armed organisations.
Rongpharpi clarified that the meeting with CEM by the FHASM delegation had nothing to do with the issue of 2021 MoS Agreement, as it was not part of the discussion.
The core issue raised by the FHASM delegation was on the implementation of the long-standing demand for an autonomous state under Article 244 (A) and to arrange for a tripartite talk with the central government on the matter.
The KNCA was part of the FHASM delegation as its president Maikon Rongpharpi and vice president Durswori Rongpipi took part in the discussion.
