DIPHU — The 2nd
Karbi Aronbarim Armu Chingrum Amei, a gathering of Karbi indigenous faith
practitioners, will be held at Karbi People’s Hall in Taralangso on April 19
with Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, as the chief guest.
This was informed by the chief executive member (CEM) of
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, during a press
conference held at Hongpharla (CEM guest house) at Taralangso on Sunday.
“The Karbis have rich culture, language and traditions. Since
time immemorial, the Karbis have their way of worshiping called Aron Barim,
which is practiced through animal sacrifices. The practice of the indigenous
faith has been passed down from generation to generation. To propagate the
age-old belief (faith), the 2nd Karbi Aronbarim Armu Chingrum Amei is
organized,” the CEM said.
He added that they have fixed April 19 for the gathering at
Taralangso to show the outside world the richness of the indigenous faith and
to witness how the other Karbis are still practicing it
The CEM informed that organising the Karbi Aronbarim
Chingrum Amei was not intended to hurt the sentiments of other religions or for
political gain. He added that all the believers of the indigenous faith will be
participating in the event by keeping aside the ideological differences.
It was informed that about 2 lakh people for from Karbi
Anglong and West Karbi Anglong are expected at the event. The Karbis living
outside the districts like Dima Hasao, Silchar, Sonitpur and Meghalaya and
Arunachal Pradesh would also participate.
Ronghang also informed that 5000 bighas of land has been
allotted by the KAAC at Langvoku for construction of sites for performing
rituals and various development activities.
The CEM has invited other religious communities and tribes
to participate in mega events to witness how the indigenous faith is practiced.
The press conference was attended by MP Amarsing Tisso; MLA
Darsing Ronghang, who is the president of the reception committee of Karbi Aron
Barim Chingrum Amei; KAAC executive member Lunsing Teron, and others.
