Diphu, May 18 (EMN): The proposed 24 hours Karbi Anglong bandh has been withdrawn.
The bandh was called upon by the social organisation ‘24+’. The leaders of the organisation said that the bandh was withdrawn to show respect to High Court.
During a press conference held at its office in Diphu on May 18, a constituent organisation of 24+, United Karbi Students Association (UKSA), president Ratan Terang said, “the Gauhati High Court has directed Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to create new rules and acts according to Para 2 Sub-para 7 of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India within two weeks as Para 2 Sub-para 6 of . 1951 has become obsolete. The PIL was filed last year. Keeping this development in view and respecting the High Court we are withdrawing the bandh.”
Convenor, central working committee of 24+ organisations, Angtong Engti said, “last year the Chief Executive Member (CEM) (of KAAC) said that the matter was sub judice and he cannot take any action. Now, it is no longer sub judice, the High Court has directed KAAC to make new acts and rules.”
