Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): A Right to Information (RTI) activist has alleged corruption and clandestine dealings in the Public Works department (PWD)of Karbi Anglong in Assam after recent information allegedly led to findings that the authorities allocated work for a non-existent village called 'Bijoy Teron village.'
An update in the form of a press release was issued by a RTI activist from Diphu, a citizen called Podmo Teron. The statement was addressed to the authorities of the district's PWD.
The information mentioned a "KAATC package" which was stated to be a package for improvement of a road from Joysing Doloi Auditorium Hall to the 'Bijoy Teron village approach road via Cotton Gining Mill.'
'I have several reasons to believe that some officials in your department are dishonest, disloyal and their conduct is intended for corruption,' the activist stated. The professional conduct of the department is extremely doubtful because of failure to furnish information within the stipulated time as stipulated by the provisions of the RTI Act of 2005, the activist stated in its list of allegations.
"On information from reliable sources the name of the work is known to be as KAATC package
Improvement of road from Joysing Doloi Auditorium Hall to Bijoy Teron village approach road via
Cotton Gining Mill of road formation including RCC bridge. Investigation on the activities of the work
revealed that Bijoy Teron village does not even exist which clearly indicates that deception and
fraudulent intention of the responsible official of your department," the updates stated.
The RTI activist alleged further that tender notice or Invitation was not 'generated' which is
"questionable" and this, the activist remarked, the intention was for 'parking financial profit by some officials of your department.'
The updates have demanded more information about the issue and that the authorities conduct inquiries into the matter. The activist has likewise demanded prompt action against those responsible.
