Imphal, April 12 (EMN): Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Dinganglung Gangmei from Nungba assembly constituency in Manipur’s Tamenglong district was elected unopposed as the new chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) in Manipur on Tuesday.
Though the election of the HAC chairman was scheduled on Tuesday, the news was already broken in social media on Monday as MLA Dinganglung Gangmei was the only candidate who submitted his nomination papers for the post of the HAC chairman on the last day for submission of nomination papers.
Forty-three-year-old Dinganglung Gangmei, also known as Dipu Gangmei and a resident of Gaidimjang(B)Khoupum area, was elected from Nungba seat after defeating former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress heavyweight Gaikhangam in the recently concluded 12th Manipur assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters after the election, the IAS officer turned politician thanked the chief minister and members of the HAC for electing him Committee chairman unopposed.
Meanwhile, sharing photographs of greeting newly elected HAC chairman in a tweet on Tuesday, the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote, “Congratulations to Hon’ble MLA, Shri Dinganglung Gangmei (Dipu) on being elected as the Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC).Looking forward to working with you to further enhance the process of peace and development in the hills of Manipur.”
Naga People’s Front MLA Leishiyo Keishing who represents Phungyar assembly constituency under Kamjong district was the former HAC chairman.
