Kandi Students’ Union questions teacher redeployment in Tseminyu
the union stated that there are seven areas/ranges in the district, of which teachers from two areas/ranges were drawn and redeployed to specific areas only
- DIMAPUR — The
Kandi Students’ Union (KSU), while endorsing the Department of School
Education's efforts, particularly the latest rationalisation and redeployment
of teachers, has stated that it has come to the KSU's attention that some
schools in the Tseminyu district remain unaffected, while others have been
adversely impacted by the rationalisation exercise, despite having a similar
teacher-student ratio.
- In a press statement, the union stated that there are seven
areas/ranges in the district, of which teachers from two areas/ranges were
drawn and redeployed to specific areas only.
- Based on the available data of the teacher-student ratio in
the district, and after analysing the rationalisation and redeployment, the
union expressed disappointment at the irregularities found in the redeployment
exercise.
- It therefore questioned the department as to why schools in
other ranges/areas under the Tseminyu district, with similar teacher-student
ratios, have remained unaffected, while Kandi and Phenshunyu areas appear to
have been specifically targeted for rationalisation and redeployment.
- It stated that the entire district rationalisation involves
the majority of teachers being drawn from these two areas. Under the RTI Act,
the Kandi Students’ Union claimed to have access to some data on the
teacher-student ratio in the district. Based on this data, the union added that
the district’s rationalisation exercise is imbalanced and unjust and questioned
whether the teacher-student ratio data of the district differs from that of the
directorate.
- The KSU also sought an answer from the department as to why
GMS Kandinu Upper (amalgamated) did not receive any primary or graduate
teachers to replace the six graduate teachers who were transferred out, while
GMS Tesophenyu Upper (amalgamated) and GMS Logwesunyu (downgraded) received
replacements for all the teachers who were transferred, despite having similar
teacher-student ratios.
- It continued that while government schools in one
area/range, with a similar teacher-student ratio to other areas/ranges, can
receive teachers in all the schools within their own area—making it the most
benefitted area in the district—GMS Kandinu Upper did not receive a single
teacher to compensate for the six teachers posted out to various areas,
describing it as a direct attack on the socio-economy of the people.
- “Therefore, the union would like to request the competent
department to immediately intervene in these irregularities and redeploy the
teachers judiciously in GMS Kandinu Upper at the earliest as the students in
the primary section is about to commence. The union assures the department that
any policy for the welfare of the student and teacher in the district is
welcome but without any anomalies,” it concluded.
