Kahuto Chishi, independent candidate from Dimapur III, on Monday said he would file a case under IPC against the village council and GB of Kushiabill if the concerned authorities do not take action against them for making the resolution to allow only ‘the head of the family to cast vote for the family.’

Chishi also refuted allegations that he was taken to police custody or was assaulted by others, while also denying that he visited the polling station with his drunken supporters.

Clarifying to media personnel about the incident at Government High School, Kushiabill polling station, he claimed he did not beat or abuse anyone, except ‘try to drag out his polling agent from the polling station’.

Narrating the incident, Chishi claimed that earlier during the day, he received information that in Purana Bazaar polling station, the fathers were casting votes for their families, so he went to the station and spoke with the presiding officer and the latter apologised and resolved the matter.

Again in Kushiabill, he claimed he received a similar report, and when he visited the station he learnt that a resolution was made by the village council and GBs where only the ‘head of the family’ was casting the vote for the entire family.

Kahuto Chishi said that he wants to file an FIR against the GB and village council members who passed the resolution as it is a clear violation of the law.

Kahuto Chishi said he demanded for re-poll but since the concerned officers stated that during the time of the incident, only 17% voters had cast their votes, he ‘considered and decided to let the process carry on’.

Meanwhile, in regard to the issue, the Sector officer of Dimapur III, Imtisunep, said there were some problems at the polling station where Kahuto Chishi came and seemed ‘unhappy with what was happening’, so the district officer also came and the matter has been resolved.

When asked what Chishi was unhappy about, he replied that he might have been unhappy with the way they were casting votes and due to suspicion of proxy votes.

EAC and Commissioner of Police also came and there were no casualties or injuries, he added. It was informed that there were 1, 146 voters in the Govt. High School Kushiabill polling station.
