Imphal, Dec. 20 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister on Monday informed that Kachai village in Ukhrul district has been proposed to be set up as a model village considering its importance in the production of the renowned ‘Kachai Lemon.’
Biren Singh was addressing a gathering at Teinem village under Lungchong Maiphei block of Ukhrul district. Rajya Sabha MP, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and Loktak Development Authority Chairman, L Sushindro accompanied the chief minister.
Informing that the ‘Hill Wild’ King Chili chocolate of Ukhrul district, which is benefited under the Manipur StartUp Scheme, he appealed to the youths of the district to apply for the scheme.
Asserting that the hill districts of the state remained backward as the elected representative and concerned persons failed to provide the benefits to the people, Biren Singh reiterated that his aim is to visit every nook and corner of the state and deliver different benefits and services of the government at the people’s doorsteps.
Announcing that INR 26 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of work sheds, godowns and dryers under the Van Dhan Vikas Yojana of Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED), which employs around 41,000 tribal women of Manipur, 46 nos. will be constructed in Ukhrul which is the highest in the state.
Stating that he aims to make each district of the state self-sufficient in every field, he added that 2 PSA oxygen plants one each at Ukhrul and Somdal were already inaugurated, Ukhrul District Hospital has been upgraded to 100-bedded Hospital. INR 33 crore has also been sanctioned out of INR 65 crore for the development and upgradation of Pettigrew College, he added.
It may be mentioned that in March 2015, Kachai Lemon (Citrus jambheri Lush), a unique lemon variety which contains 45-51 mg/100 ml ascorbic acid - the highest so far available in the realm of citrus - was accorded GI registration tag.
