KACC stops import of sand

EMN Dimapur, NOvember 13 The Karbi Anglong Chamber of Commerce has imposed an indefinite ban on import of sand outside Karbi Anglong with immediate effect owing to hike in price of sand and has urged upon the administration of Karbi Anglong to intervene into the matter and streamline the rate of sand in Karbi Anglong. In a statement, the KA Chamber of Commerce stated that basing complain received from different sections of society including sand buyers regarding huge hike of rate from Rs. 6000 per truck load to Rs. 9000 truck load, it has decided to cease the import of sand. More on page 5 It said that a huge hike of Rs. 3000 per truck load of sand by the Karbi Anglong Mahaldar Association and Sand Stockiest and Suppliers’ Union Dimapur without consulting the administration, KA Chamber of Commerce or Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council has crippled the sand market in Karbi Anglong as sand buyers are not able to buy sand at revised stated and thereby drawing criticism from across the society. The KA Chamber of Commerce has maintained that it would not lift the ban until and unless the administration streamlines the rate of sand.
