Dimapur, April 14
KarbiAnglong Chamber of Commerce (KACC) and Sand Mahaldar and Suppliers’ Association (SMSA) today termed the allegation of Sand Stockist and Supplier Union Dimapur (SSUD) as ‘baseless’ and clarified that there is no system such as ‘syndicate’ in Manja.
KACC and SMSA said it has nothing to do with collection of money by the respective mahaldar if only the driver (buyer) and mahaldar (seller) agree on the mode of payment. It said SMSA office in Manja was established for the convenience of the mahaldars as they cannot always be present at the ghat.
“If the mahaldars want to collect their money in whatever and whichever places, who are the SSUD to question the mahaldar?” SMSA queried.
KACC and SMSA, on the contrary, accused SSUD of forming syndicate system by charging exorbitant rate to the public.
Stating that they have never requested SSUD to come or objected to their coming in KarbiAnglong with regards to sand business, SMSA however said the former could come anytime if they deemed fit and reasonable in the rate. While refusing to provide sand to the stockists, the two organizations have urged the public to procure sand directly from KarbiAnglong.
Further denying the allegation, SMSA questioned the rationale of SSUD to serve an ultimatum to withdraw the syndicate system when it does not exist at all.
