Diphu, March 8 (EMN): The authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is going to launch eviction drive in Langkaijan, the inter district bordering area of Karbi Anglong and Hojai district on March 9. This was stated by KAAC, Chief Executive Member, Tuliram Ronghang during a press conference held at CEM residential bungalow on March 7.
Ronghang stated that the Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants (IBI) are settling in the area with more than thousand households established illegally in Karbi Anglong territory.
When asked about the demarcation lines by the media persons, CEM said there is a demarcated lines in Langkaijai area.
On being asked about the continuous illegal coal mining going on in Solonijan area, the CEM admitted that the illegal coal mining is still taking place while stating that those involved would be immediately arrested.
Ronghang also welcomed the CBI enquiry if constituted regarding illegal coal mining while stating that the responsibility has been given to EM Amarsing Tisso and MAC’s Mukut Mahanta and Ramsing Timung towards conducting an enquiry into the illegal coal mining.
On the 15 days deadline given by 24 social organisations to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority on March 1 last to repeal Mikir Hills (Land and Revenue) act of 1953 and Mikir Hills District (Transfer of Land) Act, 1959 in protecting the land of tribal people and framing of laws and rule for preparation of separate electoral rolls and voter lists to conduct KAAC elections, the CEM said: “Any decision cannot be taken immediately as to whether delete the names of non-tribal voters or not. We are governed by the sixth schedule provision and the KAAC is working over it. The 24 social organisations instead of filing a PIL in Guahati High Court, but discuss amicable here then solutions would have found out.”
Ronghang also said that those encroaching on the either sides of Diphu river will be notified to evict them by April. Ronghang further stated that a reshuffle of government officials will be made by March end in all the 30 departments under KAAC. All officers will have to follow the instruction for abetter government, he said.
