- DIPHU — The Karbi
Anglong district administration celebrated the 76th Republic Day at the Diphu
Government Boys' Higher secondary School playground.
- The chief executive member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous
Council (KACC), Tuliram Ronghang, attended the occasion as the chief guest and
hoisted the national flag in the presence of district commissioner, Nirola
Phangchopi.
- In his address, Ronghang emphasised the importance of unity
in achieving the long-standing aspirations of the hill people. He cited Article
244(A), which promises an autonomous state, and urged the people to work
together to make this vision a reality.
- "Due to the uniqueness of our culture and traditions,
the British government identified us as tribal and accordingly the Sixth
Schedule area was made," said CEM Ronghang.
- Regarding the border and PGR/VGR issue, the KAAC chief
stated that it had highlighted in white paper and the matter could be solved
only if the people have a positive meeting and discussion.
- Ronghang highlighted the development work including road
infrastructure, medical facilities and education, which would be witnessed in
both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong within this year. He also announced
the upcoming establishment of an engineering college in Balipathar.
- The CEM further appealed to the people to maintain peace and
tranquillity in the region, emphasising that development is a direct result of
a peaceful environment.
