Diphu, April 13 (EMN): The Karbi Anglong United People Association (KAUPA) has demanded the state government to appoint the HAD Minister by April and to implement the promise made by Home minister Rajnath Singh on Autonomous State issue.
With four point demand of KAUPA, a press conference was held at Roof Top restaurant in Diphu on April 13 Friday.
The president of KAUPA, Barnabash Rengma said that the Rajnath Singh during an election campaign meeting at Dokmoka on March 30 2014 has given his assurance that the demand of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao on Autonomous State would be granted.
Five years have been completed since the assurance but the BJP government have turned a deaf ear to it, Rengma said. He blamed the Assam health and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for not doing away with the imposition of SIU and PIU despite his promise.
"In 2011 during an election meeting held at Hanjanglangso, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had said ‘make us win and we shall throw out SIU/PIU into Brahmaputra river’ but till today it has not been done. Dr. Sarma should make his stand clear whether he will act according to his promise made or not,” Rengma said.
Also, KAUPA emphasized on protection of the border land of Karbi Anglong. Rengma said that the border areas should be protected as not even an inch of Karbi Anglong land can be given to others. In protecting the border areas, Rengma demanded that army and para-military camps should be set-up in border areas and not inside towns.
Also, the KAUPA during the conference demanded that the HAD minister should be appointed after Bihu by the state government from among the five MLAs from the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. Failing on which the above points the KUAPA would be launched its vigorous agitation in the days to come, Rengma said.
