Diphu, April 25 (EMN): The District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) held an emergency meeting at the office of Solangdo, a daily Assamese newspaper on April 25 Wednesday.
The meeting was held in regard to attack on journalists on April 24 in front of the Diphu sadar police station who were on duty.
Concerning to this, the DPCKA submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonawal through the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong Mridul Kr.Mahanta.
The DC has given the assurance and commitment to look into the matter for the safety of the media fraternity.
Also, the DPCKA submitted a complaint letter to Superintendent Police, Dr. GV Siva Prasad who assured that the matter would be taken up at the earliest.
The mobile handset of a journalist was snatched and damaged by mob in front of the police while a journalist was beaten up by police and his mobile was snatched and damaged and several vehicles and bikes belonging to journalists were attacked by police and damaged for no apparent reason. 'We, the journalist working in the field for coverage of various news have no security', added the memorandum.
During the meeting, DPCKA resolved to submit the list and details of vehicles and electronic goods damaged on April 24 to the district administration and demand compensation and resolved to demand security for journalists.
Also, the DPCKA resolved to intimate the district administration and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority about the attack on journalists and to stop covering event of any organisation if
any fraternity member is attacked by any person.
More than 30 working journalists attended the meeting.
