Diphu, June 15 (EMN): Leaders of socio-cultural organisations and intellectuals of Karbi Anglong have come together to condemn the June 8 incident, where two youths from Guwahati Abhijeet Nath and Nilutpal Das were lynched by mob on account of being suspicious child traffickers at Panjuri Kahcari Gaon of Kangthilangso.
During a press conference held in Diphu at Rangsina Sarpo Auditorium in Lorulangso on June 15 Friday, the intellectuals and leaders of various socio-cultural organisations have come together to demand punishment to the culprits involved. They pointed out that for the fault of two or three persons, the crime committed cannot be blamed to a particular community as a whole and the intellectual class of people of the district will not tolerate on it. This was stated in a printed statement which was made available during the meeting.
Axom Sahitya Sabha, former president Padmashree Rongbong Terang said Kangthilangso is a remote area and people are less educate. He said awareness campaign on impact of superstitious beliefs needs to be created among the people.
Dr. Motital Nunisa, a senior citizen from Dimasa community said that the incident is unfortunate and shocking. But what has happened cannot be made right and need to think for the future in stabling peace in Assam. The incident cannot be blamed to a particular community, but everyone has the responsibility in making things right, Dr. Nunisa said.
While Chento Rengma, a senior citizen from Naga Rengma community said there should not be any fear of psychosis and students of the district should be free to move out from the district for their higher studies.
Sahitya Academy awardee Premananda Muchahary said a culprit is a culprit. He has no community or religion and is liable to get proper punishment for the crime committed.
Former Chairman, KAAC and founder General Secretary, Karbi Cultural Society Roy Enghi demanded upon the state government to take up strong measures to wipe out superstitious belief among the people.
Expressing grief on the unfortunate incident that took place, the statement said that some anti-social persons misuse social media platform by sending wrong information on prevalence of child traffickers, allowing the semi illiterate persons to believe. Such wrong information has led to the unfortunate incident, which should not be repeated again in the days to come.
Those persons involvement in the incident without identifying the community and all should be booked, it demanded. It is also unfortunate that there are people taking the name of a particular community in Karbi Anglong and condemning them.
