Diphu, May 11 (EMN): The protest against the Citizenship (Amendment ) Bill 2016, the Hill Tribal Leaque (HTL) of Karbi Anglong has called for an agitation on May 16. This was informed by the Convenor HTL Khorsing Teron during a press conference held at Karbi Students Association (KSA)- Inglongpho conference hall on May 11 Friday.
Teron said that the organisation has submitted a memorandum to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), MP and Chairman, Rajendra Agarwal through the Deputy Commissioner of Diphu here on May 11 Friday.
A press note was issued during the press conference. The statement stated that the bill if passed into an Act, would definitely open the floodgate of influx from Bangladesh to join the existing multitude illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Development of Tripura like situation had already begun in Assam. The indigenous tribes and communities of Assam are going to be outnumbered by the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The indigenous people of the state are going to be marginalized and ultimately exterminated, socio-culturally, economically and politically, in and from their own homeland, added the statement.
The organisation stated that the last hearing on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in Assam, as its appears, are just a formality . Some selected organisations have only been asked to appear before the JPC. All stakeholders should be given an opportunity to place their views before the JPC and demanded to conduct special hearing in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao too.
The rulling BJP-led NDA government should first fulfill their poll promise to deport all illegal Bangladeshi immigrants on their coming into power in Assam.
The press conference was attended by leaders of various organisations in Karbi Anglong.
