Sechü Zubza, April 17 (EMN): Jumo Vakhri Club emerged as the champions at the first open basketball tournament organised by Team Infinitum of Sechü Zubza today at DBS basketball court. The winners Jumo Vakhri Club defeated Knight Warriors in the final to lift the title.
In their journey to the final, Jumo Vakhri Club defeated Team Infinitum, while Knight Warriors overcame Schemeren in the respective semifinal matches.
Earlier on the day, Knight Warriors also went down to Jumo Vakhri Club in their pool match; however, the warriors came back strong to win the other matches and made it through to the final.
Situo Meru of Jumo Vakhri Club was adjudged as the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the tournament.
The inaugural programme was graced by Viketouzo Meyase, president of Sechü Zubza Youth Organisation (SZYO) as the special guest.
In his address, Meyase exhorted the players to partake in the tournament with the spirit of true sportsmanship.
Stating that games and sports is an important component for the well being of people, he encouraged the sportspersons to regularly engage themselves in activities which will keep them fit and healthy.
In the attempt to make sports as a career, he advised the sportspersons to carefully choose their discipline(s), and also encouraged them to wholeheartedly strive with commitment, dedication and sincerity.
“If you have the will and desire to become a sportsperson, give a serious effort to achieve your goal. There is no substitute to hard work,” he said.
The SZYO president lauded the organisers for creating the platform for youths to exhibit their talents, while he urged the players, particularly the youngsters, to make the best use of the opportunities that comes their way.
The inaugural programme, chaired by Avituo Zhünyü, commenced with invocation pronounced by Fr Elow Samuel, rector of Don Bosco School, Sechü Zubza, while Pelevizo Sechü administered oath to the players.
The sponsors for the tournament were Rüüngutuo Sechü, finance secretary of Naga Hoho, Kezhasezo Sechü, former president, Sechü Zubza Students Union and Kedovikho Yhoshü, Asst professor, Nagaland University, Lumami campus.
