Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) has stated that it found out in its study of Dimapur market that illegal tax is being collected from the smallest product to the biggest at every point of transaction.

“A product from the entry point to go-down to retail is illegally taxed, which triples the price of every product. The living costs of the citizens have been greatly affected as there is no price regulation due to illegal tax collections,” stated PAC in a press release made available to the media on Wednesdy. The council also claimed that “while the executive forces perform their duties by apprehending criminals, the judiciary grants bail to the criminals without any difficulty.” It said this has “greatly demoralised the Police forces to effectively and sincerely perform their duty.”

“The judicial process and rule of law must be strengthened to protect and safeguard the public,” it added.
