Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) Chairman, B.D. Agarwal, in notification order informed that the first meeting of the Judicial Inquiry Commission in connection with the March 5 lynching incident was held at Police Officers’ Central Mess Chumukedima on May 17.
Meanwhile, JIC, constituted in the aftermath of the mob violence on March 5 last, has invited written statements accompanied with relevant affidavits, documents and evidences in any form to assist the commission unearth the causes behind the incident that resulted in deaths, mob violence and jailbreak.
In a press release issued today, the JIC stated that it was formed “to ascertain the causes and circumstances leading to the incident of vandalism and forcible entry into the Central Jail, Dimapur on March 5 by a mob and killing of an Under Trial Prisoner Sayed Sarif Khan and also the death of one Inito Swu in ensuing violence.”
It informed that the Inquiry Commission had been asked “to ascertain the person/persons, group/groups responsible for the incident, lapses of dereliction of duty on the part of government officials, public authorities, etc.” The commission is headed by Justice BD Agarwal (Retd) with Veprasa Nyekha, District & Sessions Judge (Retd) as a member.
The press statement from the commission invited written statements from “individuals, NGOs, family members of the victims and organizations interested” in assisting investigations into the March 5 incident.
The statements should be filed before the Inquiry Commission whose office is situated at the Police Officers’ Central Mess, Chumukedima Dimapur on or before June 16 next, it informed.
The JIC made special appeals to the “local dailies/media fraternity, the Naga Students’ Federation, All Nagaland College Students’ Union, Naga Council Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Western Sumi Students’ Union, Naga Mothers Association Dimapur, Survival Nagaland, Naga Spear, Naga Blog, GBs Federation Dimapur, GBs Union Dimapur, Principal SD Jain Girls College/Dimapur Government College, Public College of Commerce/Patkai Christian College/Dimapur Law College/Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School/ Government Higher Secondary School Dimapur and other colleges/institutions, students’ Union of various Colleges in Dimapur, Dimapur Municipal Council officials, Village Council Chairman of Diphupar A and B/Aoyimti/Chekiye/Naharbari/Padumpukhuri/Purana Bazaar, family members of the victims” to submit the written statements.
