Jubilee Memorial College creates awareness on HIV, tuberculosis in Mokokchung

MOKOKCHUNG — Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), in collaboration with the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Mokokchung, organised an Red Ribbon Club (RRC) awareness and blood donation camp at Jubilee Memorial College on Saturday on the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise" to create awareness about HIV & AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) and encourage voluntary blood donation.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about HIV & AIDS and TB, promote healthy and responsible practices, and encourage voluntary blood donation and community service.

Additionally, it aimed to provide a platform for students to participate in awareness activities through the RRC Reel Competition.

An HIV & AIDS awareness session was conducted by Sabo Aier, MICTC Counsellor. He sensitised the students on HIV & AIDS and highlighted the importance of awareness, prevention, accurate information and responsible behaviour.

The session also aimed to address misconceptions and promote a supportive and informed attitude towards HIV & AIDS.

The programme also included a TB awareness session delivered by Dr. Toshila, District Tuberculosis Officer. Dr. Toshila sensitised the students about TB and highlighted the importance of awareness, early identification and timely treatment.

The session helped students understand the significance of taking TB symptoms seriously and seeking appropriate medical care.

As part of the TB awareness and screening initiative, a free X-ray test facility was also made available during the programme. The facility enabled participants to undergo X-ray screening free of cost, adding a practical health-screening component to the awareness programme.

The programme also featured the screening of the winning entries of the RRC Reel Competition. The winners of the Reel Competition were the Department of History in first position, the Department of English in second position and the Department of Sociology in third position.
