Kohima, March 24 (EMN): Realising the need for parents to pro-actively involved in the learning process of children, the Joyance Group of Preschools organised a one day parents’ orientation programme on March 24 in the school premises.
The workshop was also designed to help parents to understand the need of children especially in the formative early years before starting formal school. The programme was attended by about 80 parents.
Speaking on the “Importance of strengthening concepts in the formative years,” Neikule Doulo, master franchisee of the Aloha Mental Arithmetic, stressed on the need to help children develop good foundational base for education. While pointing out that children with good understanding and learning will go on to do much better in life, Doulo maintained that it should be the collective efforts of both parents and educators to partner to meet this requirement.
Observing that Mathematics is often a misunderstood subject with many assuming it to be only related to numbers, Doulo stated that maths is related to all things around us as well as in all aspects of daily life.
“If this is understood then, the subject will be viewed differently by all,” she opined and added that understanding of the subject was of the utmost importance. While referring to the tabling factual research studies that have found out that children’s precocity in math directly ensures better performance in studies even in the future, Doulo hoped that this would help parents to understand the importance of the subject in totality.
Also speaking on the occasion, Chanda Sahi, proprietor of Joyance Group, stated that “50% of a child’s adult intelligence develops before the child turns four years while another 30% develops by the time he/she is eight years.”
Basing on the core truth about early childhood education, Sahi said “choosing the right pre-school is most critical” in order to prepare children for their future.
She also said that pre-school education should in no way be formal but should focus and address the four development areas of the child which are physical and motor development, social and emotional development, communication and cognitive development.
Highlighting the activities at Joyance which revolve around these needs of children, Sahi said “at joyance….we make sure that the child is motivated to do more and more difficult tasks.”
It may be mentioned that Aloha Mental Arithmetic is a programme that has been successfully running in Joyance for three years, while an additional programme of TINY TOTs is scheduled to be introduced soon, keeping in mind the smaller children.
Joyance Preschool, established in 2003 as a single branch, has now grown to other branches with the school having levels of play group, nursery, LKG and UKG at present. The Joyance Group of Preschools under the leadership of Chanda Sahi pioneered the introduction of inclusive education for children with special needs in its early years when other pre-schools and schools were wary of including these children into their classrooms.
