Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): The Nagaland Press Association (NPA) met with members of press clubs of Dimapur, Kohima, and Mokokchung on March 28 at the Press Point in Dimapur. A press release by the NPA informed about the event on March 28.
During the meeting, the house deliberated various issues confronting the press fraternity and emphasized on strengthening the association with the inclusion of more working journalists of the state.
The meeting was stated to have resolved to urge the Nagaland government to enhance the number of accredited journalists by implementing the new accreditation policy by ‘notifying it’ in the official gazette without further delay.
The journalists have urged the government to ‘notify’ the enhancement of operational subsidy to accredited journalists as announced by the state’s chief minister in his budget speech during the recent budget session.
Further, the press bodies have demanded that the government convene a meeting of the accreditation committee at the earliest and clear pending applications at the earliest so that journalists would avail the benefits. Likewise, the media persons demanded that the government implement pension and health schemes for working journalists in consonance with schemes being implemented in other states of the country. The NPA stressed on going for a membership drive from April 1 to June 30. Working journalists who have (at least) one year of experience are eligible for membership, it informed. Press clubs were requested to encourage their members to join the association. Working journalists of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung have been asked to contact their respective press club for the membership forms. Journalists from other districts may contact the NPA, it added.
