Kohima, April 6 : Jotsoma village in Kohima district is set to host the 27th biennial general conference of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU), the apex body of the Angami students’ community. The event begins on Friday, April 7, at the Centenary Compound in the village.
The three-day conference is to be hosted by the Jotsoma Students’ Union. It will culminate on April 9.
Over one thousand students from the four ranges of the Angami community namely the Chakhroma, northern, southern and western, are expected to attend the conference. The event is to be conducted with the theme “realistic response.”
The introductory session of the conference will begin on April 7 evening. Vipulhou Lhoungu, principal of a government polytechnic will be the speaker at 5.30 pm; Kevisekho Kruse, chief engineer of the Public Health Engineering department, will be attending the inaugural function as the guest speaker for the second day of the conference, at 10 am.On the second day, there will also be a literary session. Students from the four ASU range units will compete in debate and extempore speech competitions. The critic for the debate is Visakhono Hibo, principal of Japfü Christian College in Kigwema village.
The academic session is scheduled for in the evening. Dr Hovithal Sothu, deputy director of the Administrative Training Institute and Kekhrie Yhome, former assistant professor of Delhi University will be the speakers.
Further, Rev Dr Sanyü Iralu, principal, Shalom Bible Seminary, Sechüma will be the speaker for the devotional service on day-three at 9 am, while the speaker for the valedictory session at 3 pm is Krosü Rhetso, chief engineer of the Roads & Bridges department.
While informing that the host will be providing ‘Dunlops,’ the JSU’s President Rocus Rokophrezo Rino has reminded the delegates attending the conference to bring own lights and bedrolls. Upon arrival of the delegates at the village, the JSU volunteers will guide them to the places they will be accommodated during the conference, Rocus informed.
Meanwhile, ASU officials have informed regional units to come prepared with two participants each for the debate and the extempore speech competition; and ‘three items for presentation’ for the ‘extravaganza nite.’
During the conference, a new team of ASU executive council and union assembly for the tenure 2017-2019 will also be elected. Regional units have been directed to come prepared with qualified candidates for the various posts to be filled.
