Khadi Nagi Kehou celebrated its 50th anniversary today at Lieva, Jotsoma with the theme ‘ketho-u se thakelie’. Nagi is a clan in Jotsoma village which holds a meet every year.
In a speech read out by Kiyaneile Peseyie, Minister for Social Welfare, Security and Parliamentary Secretary on behalf of the chief Minister, TR Zeliang, who could not turn up to the event, he has appreciated the pioneering elders for their vision in instituting such an organization for the clan.
T R Zeliang also stated the importance of clan and the institution of Morung in Naga society which played a vital role in educating and orally passing on the traditional values. “This was the core social structure that has sustained the Naga society for which we are known for. However it is saddening to see that a lot of traditional Naga values are diminishing causing social problems” stated Zeliang. While appreciating the Khadi Nagi Kehou for attaining 50years, he is optimistic that the Khadi Nagi Meet will continue to impart Naga traditional values such as honesty, respect for elders, hard work, sporting spirit to the younger generation. Zeliang asserted that such initiative will go a long way in instilling positive values to the next generation to build a strong Naga society while also mentioning that the Nagi clan is well known among the Angami community whose members have brought many laurels to the village.
Also addressing the gathering Peseyie said “The pioneers of this meet and many other elders may not be present today but it is a time to remember their struggles and efforts for the vision and plans they have laid. The main objective of such meet is to foster better understanding and strengthen relationships’.
Kiyaneilie Peseyie also maintained that the theme of the meet, “Standing in the Truth” is very significant and asserted that both young and old need to introspect on the idea of truth and apply it in their lives at a time when dishonesty has become rampant in Naga society. He also urged the village to maintain cleanliness and to show exemplary values to tourists through honesty and truth.
The fifty years message was delivered by Pfiisozielie who gave a brief report on the origination of the Nagi clan tracing back to the Naga migration route. The Khadi Nagi meet was formed in 1966 with the intention to build understanding and to encourage the younger generation to develop themselves and contribute to the clan and society. Pfiisozielie also informed that the Khadi Nagi Resort was initiated to mark the fifty years celebration and for the posterity.
Golepra Peseyie, Chairman, Jotsoma village who in his speech recollected stories of the Naga national movement, noted that the leaders of Nagi clan as contributed immensely to the village and the region.
It may be mentioned that Khadi was the first grandson of Nagi who lived at Phezhu Jotsoma in the 17th Century. It is believed that Khadi gained popularity through the possession of a miraculous gift of a peculiar stone called Thegotsie which was the source of all prosperity and good fortune in the village. In honor and memory of his life, Nagi clan used his name and call their general meeting as Khadi Nagi. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Khadi Nagi kehou and to mark the establishment of Khadi Nagi resort a monolith has been erected at Lieva, Jotsoma.
