Officials during a joint verification on NH-2 in Wokha on
Tuesday.
- WOKHA — Representatives from the Lotha Hoho,
joint action committee (JAC), district administration, Wokha Town Council,
executive engineers from PWD (National Highway) and the construction firm on
Tuesday undertook a joint verification of National Highway-2 covering the
stretch from km 72.40 to km 83.00.
- The verification followed a letter from civil society
organisations (CSO) of Wokha addressed to the deputy commissioner on April 2,
urging action regarding the road condition. The civil organisations had
previously staged protests, including a bandh in February 2024, citing 106
anomalies in the construction and non-compliance with work order specifications. Despite an extended completion period,
discrepancies persisted along the stretch.
- During the inspection, the JAC and Lotha Hoho instructed the
construction firm to address the flagged issues. Expressing dissatisfaction
with the slow progress, they urged the firm to expedite corrective
measures.
- The general manager of TTC Infra Pvt. Ltd., along with an
executive engineer of the National Highway, assured the verification team that
necessary rectifications would be undertaken. Specific sites requiring attention
were noted for immediate action.
