DIMAPUR, AUGUST 19
A joint meeting of Naga Hoho, Naga Students’ Federation, Naga Council Dimapur and Border Coordination Committee, Uriamghat of Golaghat district Assam at Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam today stressed that the governments of India, Assam and Nagaland urgently resolve the border dispute between Assam and Nagaland without further delay for a permanent solution.
Holding a free and frank discussion with special reference to the recent border violence that erupted in Ralan-Uriamghat area leading to loss of some lives and properties, the meeting condemned the incident and resolved to prevent occurrences of such unfortunate situation in future.
The joint meeting suggested that the earlier tripartite agreement involving the representatives of the government of India and the state governments of Assam and Nagaland be reviewed to ensure maintenance of peace along the border areas till a permanent solution is arrived at.
The organizations from both sides also agreed to pursue for immediate release of those two allegedly kidnapped boys which had triggered the present border area clashes. It has further urged the state governments to rehabilitate the displaced persons by extending all possible humanitarian help,
It was jointly resolved to continue meeting of the representatives of the organizations concerned from both the states. It was also further agreed in principle to set up a Border Peace Committee at the earliest.
The various organizations under Golaghat/Jorhat districts shall not impose economic blockade against Nagaland in future, the joint meeting further resolved.
