DIMAPUR — The Joint Council Forum has appealed to the DCP (Traffic), Dimapur, to regulate the movement of heavy load vehicles through the main city area during school-going hours and peak traffic periods.
According to a press release, the forum stated that in the past, the movement of heavy vehicles through the main city during these hours was appropriately restricted, which contributed to public safety and the smooth movement of traffic.
However, it noted that on several recent occasions, heavy vehicles have been observed plying through the city during school hours and other peak periods.

The forum expressed concern over the safety of school-going children, pedestrians, two-wheelers, and small vehicles. With the increasing traffic volume in Dimapur, the forum pointed out that heavy vehicles moving through congested city areas, particularly at higher speeds, may further increase the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions.
In the interest of public safety, the forum requested that necessary measures be taken to restrict heavy vehicle movement during these hours. It also suggested that, where feasible, such vehicles should be encouraged to use the four-lane highway instead of the main city roads.
The council comprises NST Colony, Churches Colony, Middle Point, Nyamo Lotha Colony, and Khermahal.
