Imphal, Nov. 22 (EMN): The 3rd Pallicon, an international conference on palliative care was held at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal on Friday.
Palliative care is an approach that improves life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.
Speaking at the programme, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh said that the approach of Palliative Care has been gaining momentum during the recent past, adding that physical and psychological care of the elderly persons is also a priority.
Pointing out that many elderly persons use to stay in old age home due to homely grudges arises out of misunderstanding, he observed that the lack of proper care for the elderly persons also leads to break good relationship between family members.
We should always be caring to our elderly people and treat them with love and affection since nobody can escape from growing old one day, he advised.
The spiritual and mental care in palliative care signified not only health care but also wellness of the needy people, he added.
