MOKOKCHUNG — The
Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (JMF) marked its 10th anniversary by felicitating
outstanding students in Ao literature during a programme at Aor Kilem,
Mokokchung, on December 7.
Founded in 2014, the foundation has been committed to
promoting Ao literature by organising programmes, training sessions, seminars,
and competitions such as essay writing, quizzes, spelling bees, and symposiums.
Its primary aim is to preserve linguistic heritage and encourage excellence
among the younger generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Imtilemla, principal of Impur
Bible Seminary (IBS), commended JMF's efforts, particularly its recognition of
non-Ao-speaking students excelling in the Ao language. She described this
initiative as a significant encouragement for cultural preservation.
The principal also remembered Jemtimenba as someone who
utilised his wealth for the betterment of society and the preservation of Ao
literature. She highlighted that his philanthropic legacy continues through the
awards for students now received by IBS.
Tongpangmayang Kichu, president of the Ongpangkong Students'
Conference (OKM), expressed gratitude to JMF for its support in projects aimed
at preserving the Ao mother tongue and language. He also conveyed hope for
continued collaboration in the future.
Marsanen Imsong, president of Ao Senden, stressed the
importance of language as both a legacy and an identity. “Language is a gift
from God; it is a legacy where the identity of a person lies,” he asserted.
The president of Ao Senden highlighted JMF’s notable
achievements across various fields, stating that its decade-long journey serves
as a testament to its commitment to preserving Ao literature and culture. He
urged the audience to embrace and promote the Ao language in daily interactions
and events.
During the event, Marsanen Imsong also unveiled the JMF
Magazine, which highlights the foundation's initiatives and contributions to Ao
literature and culture.
Five students were honoured on the occasion with the JMF
Meritorious Award, comprising a cash prize of INR 5,000 and a certificate.
