JLF to constitute ‘Core Committee’ for Naga issue

Dimapur, Feb. 12 (EMN): The Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) on Wednesday decided to constitute a ‘Core Committee comprising elected members irrespective of party affiliations to urge upon the Government of India and all the stakeholders for an early settlement of the Indo-Naga political issue’.

The decision was taken at JLF consultative meeting on Naga political issue held under the chairmanship of NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, in the Conference Hall of the Assembly Secretariat on February 12, a press release from Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Secretariat informed.

“The Joint Legislators’ Forum had deliberated extensively on the Naga political issue and felt the urgent necessity for achievement of an early negotiated political settlement, and in furtherance of the objectives; it has decided to constitute a Committee,” read the press release.

The nominating committee comprising Sharingain Longkumer, Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu and Minister for Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom has been entrusted to form the new Core Committee.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio released booklets titled “Profile of Speaker & Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (1961-2018)” and “Member Nagaland Legislative Assembly”, a comprehensive study from Interim Body to the 13th Assembly, during the meeting and appealed to the former parliamentarians present to support the effort of JLF for Naga political solution.

The update went on to say that Neiba Kronu distributed laptops to all the parliamentarians and former parliamentarians.
