Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): North East Executive Council (NEEC) of Janata Dal (United) on Saturday thanked the people of Manipur for electing six of the 38 candidates fielded by the party in the recently concluded 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly with a high percentage of votes.
The six MLAs were felicitated by the party chief, Nitish Kumar, CM of Bihar at his residence in Patna on March 11 along with a host of senior party leaders and ministers, a press release informed.
The party further extended the support of its six MLAs in the Manipur assembly to the BJP as the latter is set to form government after winning 32 seats.
"In the interest of the people of Manipur, the JD (U) has decided to give support to the BJP in the formation of the government. The JD (U) would like to appeal to the BJP to honour the mandate reposed in the party and fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people", it said in a statement according to PTI.
The six newly elected legislators have elected Khumukcham Joykisan Singh as their leader, the party said.
