Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has said in a statement that implementation of ILP in the state will be a useless exercise unless “who is an indigenous person and who is not” is defined owing to “widespread adoption and mixed marriages prevalent in Naga society.” It said deliberation on the issue is needed as the state government has already notified the introduction of RIIN.
“While the teachers will be roped in to enumerate the indigenous inhabitant exercise, the state government is reminded that the like situation of e-roll farce prevalent in the state cannot be allowed to take place in RIIN enumeration,” read the statement from JCPI. It said steps have to be taken to avoid bogus.
To discuss matters related to RIIN, the committee has convened a meeting on July 5, 11 am, at Saramati hotel, Dimapur. It has requested all the presidents and general secretaries of the tribe hohos and mass based organisations to attend the meeting, stating that the outcome of the gathering would be forwarded to the government.
The JCPI has also appreciated the state government, particularly the BJP led by Dy CM Y Patton and BJP President Temjen Imna Along for vociferously opposing the PIL filed against the BEFR and the Supreme Court for dismissing it.
The committee also thanked Advocate General K N Balgopal, who represented the Government of Nagaland, for ensuring the defeat of the PIL.
