Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has denounced former Chief Minister TR Zeliang portraying himself as a ‘victim’ and playing sectarian politics. The committee issued a press release on Saturday taking a jibe at what it dismissed as a “cheap minority card” tactic.
The JCC stated: “TR Zeliang’s utter lack of remorse as shown in refuting moral ownership on the whole unfortunate incident and portraying himself rather as victim of majoritarian (sic) politics is intolerable and shows his sheer disregard and insensitivity for the two departed youths, who lost their lives because of his flip flop decisions and treachery.”
The committee remarked here that it was “simply unbecoming of true statesmanship” for one to divert and politicize “the whole disastrous episode to minority politics v/s majority politics and try absolving himself of any responsibility for the carnage and loss of lives.”Denouncing the “cheap minority card played by TR Zeliang and his supporters,” the committee said it was nothing but a “foul and insincere attempt to blemish the Naga people’s movement to protect Article 371 (A) and shift the blame to the people of Nagaland.”
Here, the committee has expressed support to the decision of the Diphupar Village Council that under no circumstance will the JCC allow the post of Chief Minister be “given back” to TR Zeliang. It will be “sacrilege to the Naga people as a whole,” the committee stated.
Repeat: demands
The JCC stated further that unless a Joint Inquiry Commission is set up for impartial investigations and “bring this matter to a logical conclusion,” the organisation will continue its fight.
A matter related to the issue that the press release mentioned was that the NTAC and JCC has repeated its demand for immediate suspension of the deputy commissioner of Longleng district and the police personnel involved in the firing. The demand has been placed before the government to fulfil within seven days from the date of submission of the representation.
