Ban on offices, government vehicles to remain
Dimapur, Feb. 19: The ongoing bandh across Dimapur has been lifted, but partially, now that Chief Minister TR Zeliang has put in his resignation, the organisation spearheading the agitation in the district against the government has stated on Sunday.
The Joint Coordination Committee issued a note on February 19.
“In light of the official confirmation of TR Zeliang’s resignation, JCC has called for partial lifting of the bandh. Therefore all business, central offices, schools and colleges, banks etc will not fall under the purview of the bandh,” the press release stated.
However, the bandh will continue for state government offices and state government vehicles, the organisation stated.
The JCC has ‘requested’ 100 volunteers from ‘each tribe’ to assemble at the Dimapur deputy commissioner’s office at 8:00 am on February 20.
JCC rejects judicial commission
Also, the committee has rejected the one-man judicial Inquiry commission of the government to probe the January 31 violence.
‘Further, the JCC totally rejects the one-man judicial inquiry commission set up the government to look into the January 31st, 2017, incident and demands that the judicial inquiry commission should be head (sic) by three persons; one person should be from an NGO selected by the JCC,’ the note stated.
The committee also iterated its demand for the suspension of the commissioner of police and the erring police personnel.
NTAC: Kohima bandh to continue
The Nagaland Tribes Action Committee has informed that although “they have heard” that the Chief Minister TR Zeliang had tendered his resignation late Sunday night, until the time the committee received a formal letter from the governor informing the same, the bandh on government offices and government vehicles would continue in Kohima.
Mokokchung bandh to continue
The partial shutdown in Mokokchung district will continue into Monday, February 20. The Joint Action Committee of the Ao Senden informed about the event on Sunday. Exemptions remain as was stated earlier.
The Ao Senden informed that partial bandh will be imposed on Mokokchung with the same restrictions: closure of all government offices and prohibition movement of government-registered vehicles.
