Dimapur, March 8 (EMN): The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and the Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) have warned the state government of ‘incomprehensible’ drastic measures if their demand for suspension of police and administrative personnel involved in the January 31 firings at Dimapur and Longleng were not fulfilled within 7 days.
The two organisations issued a representation on Wednesday. “The disregard by the state government of Nagaland in fulfilling the demands of the people for taking action against the officials and personnel who indulged in abuse of office and power resulting to the incident of indiscriminate police firing at Dimapur and Longleng on January 31 which is long overdue and delinquent, leaves us no choice but to serve this 7-day ultimatum effective from today, the 8th March, 2017.“Suffice to say that institution of a Judicial Enquiry against the officers is a valid ground for placing the officers under suspension so as to conduct an impartial enquiry without any influence,” they stated in the representation addressed to the chief secretary.
They have demanded immediate suspension of the former commissioner of police, Dimapur; the deputy commissioner of Longleng; and all the police personnel involved in the ‘indiscriminate firing’ in Dimapur and Longleng.
The state government, they have stated, “must take these issues extremely serious without any doubts otherwise it cannot be exonerated of lacking humanitarian importance, and failure to respond to this ultimatum will leave the people with no alternative but to resort to taking drastic measures incomprehensible”.
